First a general reminder for those who need to make up the Brave New World / Grammar/ Vocabulary test. Tests are in the testing lab. You have until Wednesday at the latest.
Monday/Tuesday
Reading quiz on "The Eumenides." Go over in class.
We will be starting "The Odyssey." Since your textbooks at home do not have Books I - IV, we will be doing this in class. I'm taking a different approach than usual, however. I have created a hand-out with a list of questions. You will answer these questions on a separate sheet of paper and turn in at the end of class. Except for the kinds of questions about a person's name or the name of a place, you may use a single word. If the question requires an explanation or an example (for support), however, you must write in complete sentences. Turn in when completed. Staple the question sheet, with your name on it, to your answers on your own paper. If you finish early, you may start the homework. Because Books III & IV are not as exciting as some of the other chapters, I have summarized them, highlighting the important points--especially the kinds of themes that will appear throughout the work. You should know characters' names and what happened, and if I say something is important, you should know why it is important. There will very likely be a reading quiz on my summaries of Books 3 & 4 on Wednesday/Thursday. Also, for Wednesday/Thursday, remember to have your vocabulary books. We will be going over the words in chapter 11.
Wednesday / Thursday
Reading quiz. Review in class.
Go over the vocabulary words in chapter 11. Remember, this will be the homework that is due Friday.
Discuss the work so far and the kinds of responses you had to the questions. We will probably do the same thing with Books V & VI. I have not decided yet, but I may also have you break into small discussion groups. Read books VII & VIII for homework (due Monday/Tuesday, not Friday) unless otherwise directed. (As I review these Books, I may decide to give you summaries instead).
Homework for Friday: Vocabulary exercises, chapter 11
Friday: Check for completed homework. Go over. Begin weekend reading assignment. Expect a reading quiz for Monday/Tuesday.

Happy New Year
Wednesday/Thursday
Go Read assignment due. Reading quiz. I'm not sure if we are switching into other classes after that, so the plans can change. If we are switching, then that will be what happens. If not, then we will go over Brave New World and grammar.
Friday
Review is scheduled. Remember, the test will be on Monday/Tuesday. No essay, but some short answer and definitions and/or quote identifications related to Huxley's novel. See Losennotes. 40% Brave New World, 40% vocabulary (including classical roots--matching), 20% grammar (identifying parts of speech and types of sentences).
